Like so many fallen young men that day Sheldon’s final resting place remains unknown. One hundred and fifty years later his great-great grandson, Bill stopped in Brewbaker’s for some lunch. Once again his search of records and graveyards proved unfruitful. As he was leaving he stopped at the bar to say what a nice meal he had and remarked on how much he liked the area. As we chatted Bill told me about his quest, he showed me the letter his great-great uncle had written. From the description I knew he was mistaken about the name of the creek. The following day I visited the area along Red Bud Run and was able to photograph the approximate site, a bend in the creek 300 feet from the mill’s ruins. Bill plans to return soon and I will take him to the place where we believe his search will end.
